Blind – who played for United between 2014 and 2018 before moving back to Ajax to link up with Ten Hag – insists he is ‘confident’ the coach will do well in his new role but urged United chiefs to give him patience.

“Others may say that it is over. But I’m really confident that Ten Hag is the right man for Manchester United and will lead the team to great success. But the key lies in the support of the board. Which has always been an issue with other former coaches.”

“At Ajax we had former legends Edwin van der Sar and Mark Overmars working behind the scenes so things went as smoothly as it could.”
